Scott Bresee
Hello all,
I am Scott Bresee, inventor and president of FlighTowel. I’ve been playing disc golf since July 24th, 2016 and it has become my life. In the past 4 years I have persuaded pretty much every friend I have to get into the sport, as well as my wife, two daughters, and son-in-law. I am humbled to be a part of such an amazing community, disc golfers are just good people. I feel like a backstory for how FlighTowel came to be is in order. Check it out below if you have a minute, and may your next round be amazing!
My disc golf journey started on July 24th, 2016 at Cascades Gateway Park in Salem, OR. I was just coming off another back injury from playing ball golf when my brother-in-law suggested we play some disc golf. I had heard of it before, but had no idea what it was all about, so I gave it a shot. I hit the course with my Franklin starter set and instantly disliked the game. Nothing went where I threw it and the metal things caught nothing. Everything changed halfway through our round when he let me throw his DX Beast. One throw with that disc and I was hooked, the flight path was unlike anything I’d seen. It was beautiful. I ordered my Innova DX starter pack from Amazon the next day, I was hooked.
Enter the need to warm up. I have dealt with extreme back pain from degenerative disc disease since I was 24 years old. It is a 24/7 type of pain with no escape, I just have to work through it every day, it is part of life. In ball golf I’d ease into a round with a lot of practice swings, slowly building up to full speed. That would also be the time I’d determine how much I could give it that day without destroying myself, kind of important. I was instantly missing that routine in disc golf, something had to be done. I turned to Reddit and found a crude solution to my problem, the towel warm-up routine. It mimicked the motion of throwing my discs well, but it just didn’t have the right feel. The idea to add the fob came to me quickly, I needed a grip to hold on to, it just made sense that it was a disc piece. Soon after, the idea of the resistance pocket came to me and the product was complete, I made a prototype in the garage with a jigsaw and Amanda’s sewing machine and hit the course. It worked better than I ever imagined, I instantly knew I had something, the FlighTowel was born!
Fast forward 3 years and we have a highly successful small business! We sell FlighTowels worldwide through the website I have created on Shopify. We are in many disc golf shops around the country, with new ones being added all the time. I have three business partners now; my amazing wife Amanda Bresee handles our sponsorship program and wholesale accounts; Scott West oversees tournament sales, custom print orders, and is our screen-printing guru; and Grant Nixon assists with manufacturing in the shop and is wicked fast on a sewing machine. I take pride in every FlighTowel we make; it brings me great joy to create something that others in the disc golf community can benefit from. I am honored to be a part of such an amazing group of people, and grateful for every round I get to play in this wonderful sport of ours. #driven #discgolfislife #teamflightowel #nobadrounds
