How long have you been playing disc golf?

5-yrs

How did you get your start in disc golf?

During a camping trip to Milo McIver when I was like 6 we tried it for just something to mess around at, several years later when I was 14 (freshman year of HS) we actually bought some discs and played at Glenwood Church after a recommendation from a Bike mechanic. I have been hooked ever since!!!

What do you love most about the sport?

I like how rewarding it is; if I put 100 hours of putting in, I see the output in C1 and C2 % in tournaments, to me that is cool.

What makes disc golf better than the other sports you have played?

I’m not naturally a very athletic person, but I have played just about every sport that most kids have, and some you likely haven’t; Soccer, Track, Basketball, Tennis, even Fencing, but nothing gives me the rush I get in disc golf from a perfect woods shot, or hitting a 60 foot putt. It’s just different, and I love it.

How do you approach a new course?

I look for two things on every shot; first, what does my instinct and gut feeling tell me, second...what holes that I have played prior in my career are similar, and can I pull off the same, or a relatively close to the same shot? And finally, practice putt for 2-4 hours before the event, if your playing a new course blind, you can kinda putt yourself into a competitive score even if you don’t drive perfect.

What motivates you to continually improve your game?

The fact that I can always do something better; maybe I made all my putts, but a couple were outside C1, so I need to dial in my driving percentage a bit. Even when you win, you can always do something better than you did.

What do you do to stay focused playing in tourneys?

Honestly....I try to stay as checked out as possible in any moment when I am not throwing a shot. Mental focus is so taxing, and exhausting that I try to stay relaxed whenever I am not throwing, that way I can have the maximum focus on each and every moment when I AM Throwing.

What’s your most memorable win?

My most memorable win was my first win: the 2016 Warmup at Whistler’s in MA2. It was big because I hadn’t won yet, and to come out leading the event on such a monstrously tough course, and bigger still, I never gave up the lead for the remainder of the event, I had several 40-60 footers to maintain my lead that I kept making, ultimately finishing on a 35 footer in direct headwind to finish the win.

What’s your most memorable disc golf moment?

The Utah Open. Every year I have gone, something cool has happened, last year, I won theMA1 Flex C-tier, and 3rd in the A-tier MA2. This year, I made the cut in MA1 and finished 9th, plus I got to play my practice rounds with guys like Cam Messerschmidt and Joel Freeman!

What are your top three favorite discs?

The Infinite Discs Emperor, the Infinite Discs Exodus, and the Infinite Discs Ra.

What are your top three courses you have played?

Not necessarily in order; Hornets Nest in Charlotte, NC. Milo McIver in Estacada, OR. And Nevin Nightmare in Charlotte, NC.

If you could play any course in the world, which would it be?

Järva DiscGolfPark, or maybe the Beast in NokiaDiscGolfPark

Who is your disc golf hero, and how were you influenced be him or her?

Paul McBeth. His perseverance and fight. I have an auto immune discsease called Ulcerative Colitis. It is treatable, but not curable at all. I’ll have it my whole life, and I have had to learn to deal with that on and off the course. Watching Paul make comebacks, play and win through injury and doubt over, and over helped inspire me a lot.

What non-disc golf hobbies do you have?

I play pickup basketball (and am I huge Blazer, and Warrior fan) with my friends. I like music a lot. I read almost daily, and I may be the biggest Harry Potter fan you ever meet!!!

Any superstitions you have before or during a round?

I tend to always where something bright color first round, and very flashy if I need a hot round.

What does #NoBadRounds mean to you?

That even if you shoot bad, you can learn things from mistakes that make you better overall for it.

What do you love most about your FlighTowel?

I mean I know the warm up piece is great, but it’s actually a really good disc towel too.

Is there anything else you would like to add to your Team FlighTowel profile?

I am 19 years old, and a college student+working part time+traveling most of the year for disc golf.
