How long have you been playing disc golf?

8 years

How did you get your start in disc golf?

A couple of friends brought me to the course that we had at our middle school. After the first round I played, I needed to get better. I was hooked and haven't stopped since then.

What do you love most about the sport?

I love the community around the sport. 99% of people that play disc golf are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I also love the fact that anyone can play it! From kids to senior citizens and everyone in between.

What makes disc golf better than the other sports you have played?

I love the fact that even when you are playing competitively against other people, you really are just playing against yourself and the course. There isn't anything that anyone else can do that will affect how you play your game. It is just as much of a mental game as it is physical.

How do you approach a new course?

I try to compare each new hole to one that I have played before. I focus only on the line that I have to take and nothing else. For brand new courses I also try to look for a combination of the safest yet most effective line available so that I am not in the rough on a hole that I have never played before.

What motivates you to continually improve your game?

I strive to be the best at anything that I do. I know that I will never be perfect at a majority of the things that I do, but I am motivated to avoid failure at all costs.

What do you do to stay focused playing in tourneys?

I try as hard as I can to tune out every single thing around me except for my disc, my line, and the basket. I only think about the shot I am facing at that moment in time. I never think about my previous shot, whether it be good or bad. If I am having a tough time focusing, I put in some headphones and play some chill, relaxing music, close my eyes, and slow my breathing down before I approach my lie.

What’s your most memorable win?

I haven't won yet, but my most memorable event so far is a third-place finish in my first tournament jumping from intermediate to advanced.

What’s your most memorable disc golf moment?

I traveled to my wife's old college town, three and a half hours away, for an unsanctioned event that the college club was putting on. I was lining up a put, and pretty zoned in. On my back swing of my putt, there was a huge roar from across the course where I heard a female voice scream, "Oh My God!" My buddy on my card looked at me with a grin and said, "I think your wife hit an ace." After the round she walked up to me with a huge smile, shoved her scorecard in my face, and sure enough there was a big one marked in the box for hole 9. It was her very first ace and it was a tournament ace. I couldn't have been prouder of her.
