How long have you been playing disc golf?

3 years

How did you get your start in disc golf?

Technically a grade school PE teacher introduced me to the game but we only had ultimate discs to throw. Then an older cousin took me to play when I was in junior high. But it wasn’t until after college that a group of my friends and I started getting into actually playing consistently and improving our game.

What do you love most about the sport?

The good times with friends, getting outside, competition, and a constant never ending pursuit to get better.

What makes disc golf better than the other sports you have played?

Actually injury has kept me from a lot of sports. I have a metal plate in my shoulder which prevents me from competitively playing a lot of sports. When I started enjoying disc golf more I realized the throwing motion wasn’t as hard on my shoulder, that combined with my love for throwing discs just clicked one day.

How do you approach a new course?

One throw at a time! But seriously, I love playing new courses, it usually shows me throws I haven’t been working on enough.

What motivates you to continually improve your game?

I’m a bit of a mechanics geek so it’s an easy motivation. I studied kinesiology in school and did a whole project on the mechanics of throwing a disc!

What do you do to stay focused playing in tourneys?

Remind myself that I play disc golf for enjoyment not for a living! If I’m not having fun then I’m wasting my time. And if I’m focused on enjoying my time and the people around me I am much more relaxed and it’s easier for me to get into a positive spirit and focus on my game. It sounds kind of backwards and I’m sure it might not look like this to my card mates always (I get get pretty quiet when I’m focused) but this is what’s running through my mind.

What’s your most memorable win?

Definitely my first ever tournament with. It was insane whether with hale coming down and a pretty big field of competitors on. Course I’d only played once before. It was unsanctioned, but a very competitive tournament.

What’s your most memorable disc golf moment?

Every time I get to go play with my son!

What are your top three favorite discs?

AGL Discs Madrone, AGL Discs Cypress, Discmania DD2

What are your top three courses you have played?

Peregrine Point, DeLaveaga, Ryan Ranch

If you could play any course in the world, which would it be?

I’d love to try out Järva, but also I love traveling so going to another country is part of that motivation!

Who is your disc golf hero, and how were you influenced be him or her?

It might be cliche but I’ve gotta go with McBeth. Watching how consistent and concise his form is motivated me to take the mechanics of my throw seriously which dramatically improved my game.

Whats in the bag?

AGL Madrone (at lease 2), AGL Manzanita, XT Nova, MD2, AGL Magnolia, MD4, Judge, FD, AGL Cypress (all 3 runs), Shryke, DD2

What non-disc golf hobbies do you have?

All sports! But really, any chance to play sports I try to take advantage of. Particularly basketball and football.

Any superstitions you have before or during a round?

Nope! “I’m not superstitious, I’m only a little stitious”

What does #NoBadRounds mean to you?

If I’m playing my favorite sport I’m enjoying my time whether the disc is flying how I want it to or not!

What do you love most about your FlighTowel?

Oh my goodness, the FlighTowel is genius. I snapped my humorous clean into 2 pieces and had to have a metal plate put in to repair it right at my shoulder. Plus I broke my neck, 10 ribs, and my right wrist. So warming up is extremely vital to my game and the FlighTowel has made it possible for me to quickly and adequately warm up for my round using the specific muscles I need to loosen up and without adding anything extra to my bag! It feels like it was designed specifically with me in mind.
