How long have you been playing disc golf?

Twenty Years competitively

How did you get your start in disc golf?

My best friend, Ronnie Matz introduced me to it after we graduated High School & it's become more & more a part of my life over the years.

What do you love most about the sport?

My favorite part is traveling, but I like traveling so much because you get to meet so many new people, & hang out with friends that you don't get to see all the time. So I guess my answer should really be the friendships formed.

What makes disc golf better than the other sports you have played?

There are a lot of things, but one thing that I think really sets disc golf apart from other sports, is the approach-ability of the top pros in our sport. You don't see that in any other professional sport.

How do you approach a new course?

I like to walk a new course before I play it, if time allows. I'm looking for ideal landing zones, hidden danger zones & any OB that might not be visible off the tee. From there I start building my game plan & working on disc selection.

What motivates you to continually improve your game?

The desire to be better than I was the last time I played it. My goal is always, & only, to beat myself & conquer the course.

What do you do to stay focused playing in tourneys?

I use internal dialogue a lot. I have certain jingles that I repeat to myself before each shot that help me get in the zone & turn off my brain. I find that it's easier to allow muscle memory to kick in when the mind isn't involved.

What’s your most memorable win?

Lake Claiborne Doubles Championship 2016. My daughter Lillie-Beth & I were both registered to play in our respective divisions, but both of our partners had to withdraw before the tournament due to injury, so we paired up in the Mixed Am division. We started out 3 back of the leaders (6 teams total), but came back over the next two rounds to win by 2! It was awesome to watch her turn that "assassin" switch on once she realized we were losing. I'll never forget it!

What’s your most memorable disc golf moment?

Same as about, but I guess my most memorable recent disc golf moment would be finally getting the monkey off my back & getting my first MPO win, after 12 years of coming up short so many times. There was an instant sense of relief & I was able to finish the 2019 season out with a number of strong showings.

What are your top three favorite discs?

Westside Proto Gatekeeper, Latitude 64 Hybrid Explorer, Dynamic Discs Lucid Raider

What are your top three courses you have played?

Jones East, Emporia Kansas Ford Park, Shreveport, Louisiana Audubon Park, Garland, Texas

If you could play any course in the world, which would it be?

Maple Hill

Who is your disc golf hero, and how were you influenced be him or her?

Being from the Southeast, Matt Orum was the first legit pro I ever got to see play up close so watching how he spins the disc in his driving, as well as putting played a big part on how I approached the game.

Whats in the bag?

Medium Zero Keystone (putting) BT Hard Shield (throwing) Proto, Hybrid, TP-X, BT Hard Gatekeeper Proto, SE, BT-Hybrid Anvil Hybrid, Opto-X Explorer Chameleon Opto-X Explorer TP-X, VIP Longbowman TP-X, VIP Fortress Lucid Raider Opto Ballista Pro

What non-disc golf hobbies do you have?

Graphic Design, as well as studio art. I like to run when I have time & I enjoy creating content.

Any superstitions you have before or during a round?

Nah. ;)

What does #NoBadRounds mean to you?

That regardless of the score says, you can make a decision to not let it become a bad round. There is something to learned from every situation & all outcomes are neutral by design. It's up to us whether we assign negative or positive energy to those outcomes.

What do you love most about your FlighTowel?

I love that it's a unique product that meets specific need in the sport & that someone other than the big manufacturers invented it. I also love that there's practically zero waste in making this product. Great for the earth!
